Niskayuna Gutter Clearing and Downspout Flushing
Your gutters get cleared by hand and every downspout gets flushed until water flows freely, and we check hangers and seams while we are at roof height. Standoffs keep our ladders off the gutters, and we plan around service wires before anyone goes up.

What clearing your gutters actually fixes
A gutter only works if water can travel the full length of the trough and drop through the outlet. Maple seeds, oak tassels and pine needles mat together with shingle granules into a wet sludge that settles at the outlets first. Once those plug, water backs up, spills over the front lip, and soaks the fascia board and the soil along your foundation.
In winter that standing water freezes inside the trough, adds weight the hangers were never sized for, and feeds ice dams at the eaves. Clearing the gutters before freeze-up and again after the spring seed drop keeps that cycle from starting.
We have been in business 5 years, and we treat this service as ladder work first. Most injuries on a gutter job come from a ladder sliding along the trough or a worker overreaching, so our setup is built to prevent both.

Part of every gutter visit
- 01
Every run cleared by hand
We empty each trough with gloves and a scoop, dropping the muck into a bucket and then a contractor bag. Nothing is sprayed onto your shingles, beds or siding, and we take the bags away with us.
- 02
Flushed downspouts
Water goes through every outlet and downspout while we watch it come out at the bottom. When a downspout is jammed, we clear it from above or take off the lower elbow to get at the blockage.
- 03
Hangers and seams checked
We watch for hidden hangers that have loosened, spikes that have backed out, and end caps or miter seams that leak. Anything we spot, we photograph so you can see it for yourself.
- 04
A look at the slope
Water sitting in the middle of a run usually points to a sagging section or a hanger torn out of rotted fascia. We show you where and explain what it means.
- 05
Care for the roofline
Our ladder standoffs press on the wall or roof edge rather than the gutter lip, so the aluminum stays straight. Where a ladder can do the job, we stay off fragile shingles.
Questions about Gutter Clearing?
Call(518) 832-5306Signs your gutters need clearing
Water sheeting over the front
If rain spills over the lip during a moderate storm, the outlet below is likely blocked. The trough fills and has nowhere to go.
Plants growing in the trough
Seedlings in a gutter mean there is enough wet organic matter to hold soil. That mat also holds water against the metal and the fascia.
Sagging or pulled-away sections
Wet debris is heavy. A section bowing away from the house often has hangers straining under the load, and the fix starts with removing the weight.
Icicles and ice ridges at the eaves
Heavy icicle buildup through a Capital Region winter often points to a gutter that was holding water when it froze. Ice in the trough can also lift shingles at the drip edge.
Staining or erosion below the gutter
Dark streaks on siding or washed-out mulch under a run show where overflow is landing. Left alone, that water ends up near the foundation.
How the visit runs
- 1
Quote by phone
You call, tell us about the house, its height and any gutter guards, and we give you a free quote. We ask about trees near the roof because they decide how much debris we will meet.
- 2
Site check before climbing
On arrival we walk the perimeter, locate the overhead service drop and any low wires, and pick ladder positions on firm, level ground. Fiberglass ladders go anywhere near a line.
- 3
Clearing and flushing
We clear each run by hand, bag the debris, then flush outlets and downspouts and confirm water leaves the extensions freely.
- 4
Walkthrough and cleanup
We rinse any splatter off the siding at ground level, pick up dropped debris, and show you photos of hangers, seams or fascia that need attention.
What moves the price
Gutter work is priced on the house, not a flat rate, because a ranch with open gutters and a two-story colonial under oaks are different jobs. We explain each factor when you call so the quote has no surprises.
- Linear feet and stories
- More gutter means more clearing. Second- and third-story runs need taller ladders and more setup time, which is where safe practice takes longer.
- Debris load
- A house under mature maples or pines after the fall drop can hold several times the debris of an open lot. Compacted, wet sludge takes longer to remove than dry leaves.
- Gutter guards
- Screens and covers have to be lifted and reset, and some styles must be unscrewed. Debris often packs underneath them anyway.
- Access and roof pitch
- Decks, steep slopes, landscaping beds and uneven ground change where ladders can stand safely and how often they move.
Gutter clearing: what people ask us
How many times a year should gutters be cleared?
Two visits suit most local homes: one once the leaves are down, and one after seeds and tassels fall in spring. Homes with pines or maples hanging over the roof may need a third. After the first visit, the amount we pull out tells us which group you are in.
Could your ladders bend or dent my gutters?
Standoffs on our ladders rest against the roof edge or the wall, so the gutter lip carries no weight. That keeps the aluminum in shape, and it also stops the ladder from sliding sideways, which is the most common way a ladder fails on gutter work.
What happens if there is a problem while your crew is on a ladder?
We are a licensed and insured company, and that is where we would start. Bring it up during your quote call and we will explain the coverage before any visit is booked, so you know exactly where things stand before a ladder goes up.
Does someone have to be home for the visit?
No. We just need to reach every side of the house and use an outdoor spigot for flushing. Please keep pets inside and move any cars parked beneath the eaves.
Is it better to clear the gutters before permanent lighting is installed?
It is. When you plan permanent exterior lighting installation along the roofline, clean gutters and solid fascia give the track a better surface to mount on. We check both before any lighting track is fastened.
