Niskayuna Exterior Glass and Screen Care

Exterior glass, frames, sills and screens get washed with purified water from a pole system, so most of the job happens from the ground. If we do need a ladder, it is footed, leveled and kept away from power lines. Your panes come out clear, and your siding, gutters and plantings are left alone.

Clear glass without the ladder risk

Most exterior grime on glass is a mix of pollen, airborne dirt and mineral residue left when rain or sprinkler water dries on the pane. Tap water and a household squeegee often move that film around instead of lifting it, and the minerals in the water leave fresh spots behind. We use water run through a deionizing filter, which strips out the dissolved solids so the glass dries without marks.

Our safety-first approach shapes the method. A carbon-fiber water-fed pole lets us reach second-story and many third-story panes while standing on the lawn, which means fewer ladder setups near your foundation plantings, deck boards and overhead wires. The safest climb is the one nobody has to make, so the ladder comes out only when the pole truly cannot do the job.

This work fits neatly alongside permanent lighting installation. If we are already planning your roofline layout, we can look at the glass and screens on the same visit, so you deal with one crew and one schedule instead of two.

What an exterior glass visit covers

  1. 01

    Exterior glass, pure-water rinse

We agitate each pane with a soft brush head, then rinse with deionized water. Because the water carries no minerals, it dries clear without a squeegee pass on upper floors.

  2. 02

    Frames and sills

Vinyl, aluminum-clad and painted wood frames are brushed and rinsed along with the glass. Sills hold the most grit and spider webbing, so they get extra attention.

  3. 03

    Screen removal and washing

Screens come off, get washed by hand on the ground and go back in once dry. We note any torn mesh or bent frames so you know before the next season.

  4. 04

    Track debris

Exterior sliding door tracks and accessible sash tracks are cleared of leaves, seed pods and grit that can wear rollers and block weep holes.

  5. 05

    Hand-detailed lower panes

First-floor glass within safe reach can be finished with a squeegee and lint-free cloth for a sharp edge along the frame.

Signs your glass is due

  • A yellow-green film in spring

Late spring pollen settles on glass and bonds with morning dew. Left through summer, it bakes into a haze that dulls the view from inside.

  • White spots that won't wipe off

Those rings are calcium and magnesium left by sprinkler overspray or runoff. The longer they sit, the closer they come to etching the glass surface.

  • Dark streaks under sills

Dirt washed off the frame runs down the siding below. Washing the frame and sill stops the source.

  • Screens that look gray

Clogged mesh blocks airflow and light. If screens look solid from the street, the glass behind them is usually just as dirty.

  • Upper panes you can't safely reach

If getting to a second-story pane means leaning off a stepladder or out over a roof, that is the point to hand it off.

How the day runs

  1. 1

    Walk-around and hazard check

Before any water runs, we walk the house looking for overhead service lines, wasp nests under eaves, loose shutters and soft ground. That check decides where poles go and where a ladder is or is not allowed.

  2. 2

    Screens off, grounds protected

Screens are removed and labeled by opening. We move patio furniture back and keep hoses routed so nobody trips on them.

  3. 3

    Brush, rinse, inspect

Each pane is scrubbed and rinsed top to bottom so dirty water never runs over finished glass. Any ladder used gets a leveler on uneven ground and a standoff so it rests on the wall, never on the gutters.

  4. 4

    Screens back and final look

Dry screens are reinstalled, and we walk the exterior with you. Anything we noticed, like failed seals showing fog between panes, we point out so you have the information.

What sets the price

Glass work is priced by the job, not by a flat rate per house. We count the panes, check how they are reached and look at their condition before giving a number. The call for your free quote is where we gather those details.

Number and type of panes
Divided-light grilles, storm sashes and large picture windows each take different time than a plain double-hung sash.
Height and access
Ground-level glass is quick. Panes over a porch roof, a steep slope or a deck add setup time and safety steps.
Mineral buildup
Light dust rinses off in one pass. Hard water spotting needs a dedicated mineral remover and careful hand work, which adds time.
Screens and tracks
Washing screens and clearing tracks is extra labor per opening, so how many you want done affects the total.

Questions about exterior glass care

Will pure water really get glass clean without soap?

Yes, for routine dirt and pollen. Deionized water is hungry for minerals, so it pulls grime off the glass and dries without residue. Soap tends to leave a film that attracts dust faster. Heavy mineral spots are the exception and get treated separately.

Do you do the inside of the glass?

Our work is on the home exterior: outside glass, frames, sills, screens and accessible tracks. That keeps the crew outdoors and out of your living space.

Can you do this work in winter?

We avoid washing when temperatures are near or below freezing, because rinse water can glaze into ice on the glass, sills and walkways. That is a slip hazard for us and for you. Most homeowners schedule in spring and again in fall.

Is it safe to have you near my power lines?

We locate the service drop before starting and keep poles and ladders well away from it. Carbon-fiber poles can conduct electricity, so that distance is a rule, not a suggestion. If a pane can't be reached safely, we tell you instead of forcing it.

What credentials does your crew carry?

Every job we take on is done by a company that is licensed and insured. We have also been in business 5 years, so the ladder rules and hazard checks described here are habits, not something we made up for this page. Ask us about any of it when you phone.
